SEWAGE BACKUP SYMPTOMS

Home / Common Issues / Sewage Backup Symptoms

A sewer line blockage can lead to raw sewage and hazardous gases backing up into your home or business, potentially causing significant damage and loss of use. A blockage may be an early indicator that you have a structural integrity problem with your sewer line system including: tree root intrusion, cracks, collapsed pipe, or offset connections. Do not let your sewage system get to the point where it fails! A failed or collapsed sanitary sewer line will cost you thousands more to fix than doing preventative maintenance or repair.

The following are common symptoms that may indicate that your sewer line is deteriorating and possibly broken:

Warning Signs of Sewage Line Block

Sewage Backup

Sanitary sewer backups usually occur in the lowest open drain. A sewage backup is typically caused by a blockage somewhere in the main sewer line.

Sewer Gas Smell

The smell of sewer gas in or around your home or building. This is an indicator that there is a crack somewhere in your sewer system.

Mold

Mold growth may also be a sign of a break in your sewer lines inside your walls.

Slow Drainage

Slow drainage, bubbling or gurgling from your sink, toilet or bathtub may be an indication that a blockage is forming which will eventually lead to a sewage backup.

Green & Lush Spots of Grass

Grass that is noticeably greener in your yard may be due to a sewage leak underground, indicating a break in the line resulting in root intrusion.

Sewage Pooling in Yard

An obvious sign that you may have a broken sewer pipe would be the pooling of sewage water causing a wet and soggy ground.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms you may have a damaged sewer line and we recommend that you get a preventative sewer line video inspection done by Calgary Sewer Scope. Damaged sewer line systems can fail unexpectedly and cause substantial damage to your home.
